Our skilled Bicultural Service Navigators are trained to recognize how mental health can affect a person's daily way of living. With a trauma-informed practice they assess the clients' well-being in all aspects of their life. Our Bicultural Service Navigators understand that if a person is struggling in one area of their life, there might be many more underlying problems. Once an assessment is completed our Bicultural Service Navigators will work with the client to create goals based off a priority level and set a time-line to maximize goal achievement.
The Bicultural Service Navigation (BSN) program provides tools and opportunities to improve participants’ knowledge of and ability to access community resources. We provide those services at three levels: basic community referrals, in-person short-term navigation appointments, and goal-oriented case management. One-on-one navigation services are provided to individuals and families to help discern their needs and provide linkage support, including linguistic and cultural interpretation of documents and services.
The types of services that clients can receive consist of navigating through medical, mental health services, child care, employment, education, basic needs, interpretation, and general legal issues.
Navigation services are limited to only people who live in McHenry County. No other eligibility requirements.
Besides working with clients 1:1 our Bicultural Service Navigators also provide supporting services to all school districts in McHenry County. Navigation support may include but is not limited to: increasing family involvement, guiding country or county newcomers to appropriate resources, translation/ interpretation services, IEP advocacy, linkage, and much more.
The Youth and Family Center of McHenry County strives to help create a more collaborative and connected community. Our navigators are proactive about participating in community outreach events and in collaborating with other community agencies in order to best serve our community.
